Malcolm Knott
As CEO and founder of Industrial Technology Systems (ITS), Malcolm has led a team of over 50 problem solvers who deliver industrial control and real-time computing solutions for the chemical, life science, and other sectors.
He has over 50 years of engineering experience, specialising in process engineering, validation, and project management. Malcolm started ITS in 1991 after working for 20 years at ICI, a global chemical company and together with his senior team has built ITS into a company completing thousands of projects over 5 continents for 32 years.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the automation industry, and how did you get started in this field?
As my ICI career grew, we developed new processes and products. Each of those came to need automation, and as I became more involved in that, automating processes simply and effectively became the most interesting part. So my career naturally developed in that direction and starting ITS Ltd was a natural progression.
What do you enjoy most about working at ITS, and what sets you apart from other automation businesses in the industry?
Solving problems is the most enjoyable part. What sets us apart is; being part of a dynamic team, listening to other ideas, all aimed at improving and simplifying what we are trying to achieve and achieving that. Growing relationships and partnerships with people so you can invest time and effort in a worthwhile way.
What do you like to do outside of work to unwind and recharge, and how do you balance your personal and professional life?
Family, dogs, music (big blues fan), friends and spending time on all of those things keeps me involved, active and interested.
