Vision Systems Graduate / Systems Engineer Job - Middlesbrough or Warrington

We are looking for an energetic Engineer or Graduate to work in our vision inspection systems team to develop machine vision solutions for our customers. These systems will be used to inspect items on a customer’s production line for quality, size, shape, position etc at speed without contacting the part.

The position requires the engineer to be involved from concept through to the completion of projects.

The work is generally based at our office in Middlesbrough or Warrington. Some time on customer sites will be required for installation, commissioning, surveys etc.

Key Responsibilities
The Systems / Graduate Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the design, configuration and installation of machine vision system solutions for manufacturing customers.

The engineer will be involved in all project lifecycle activities, including fault finding, the preparation of design specifications and reports, software programming, project execution, testing, installation and commissioning.

Other responsibilities include providing technical support and consultancy to users internally and externally, and assisting the Project Engineers in ensuring successful completion of projects on time, to budget and the relevant level of quality. 

The Systems / Graduate Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and developing customer relationships in a highly professional manner. The role offers involvement in a wide variety of industries for which ITS has extensive experience, including but not limited to Automotive, Chemical, Food & Beverage, Medical Device, Nuclear, Packaging, and Pharmaceutical.

Essential Skills
The following are considered essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills
  • The successful candidate will have experience or an education in industrial automation and an interest in integrating machine vision systems
  • Practical experience of PC based office systems preferably Microsoft Office suite
  • Good documentation skills
  • Some Visual Basic or other programming skills will be required
  • Good fault finding skills
  • “Can do” attitude

Other Skills
The following skills are not essential but would be advantageous.

  • Experience of programming/configuring current machine vision systems
  • Knowledge of Cognex and DVT vision systems
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, GAMP and 21CFR11
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques and plant control systems i.e. PLC based systems
  • Some knowledge of basic PLC programming

Knowledge and Experience Required
The successful candidate will be a fast learner possibly with experience in machine vision systems or automated systems with the drive and ability to adapt to other technologies quickly and efficiently. Knowledge of the Cognex suite of vision equipment would be beneficial, however graduates with the drive and ability to adapt to new technologies quickly and efficiently will be considered. 

Ideally the successful candidate would be confident with VB6 or VB.Net and preferably have an understanding of interfacing vision system equipment with PLCs and PCs, although this is not essential. Experience in PLC programming in addition to the aforementioned technologies, would be a distinct advantage. Candidates should have a professional customer-focused approach to ensure that the end product is of the highest quality possible. 

Excellent communication skills are required, both orally and written, on technical and non-technical issues. Training will be provided where necessary.
