Congratulations to Industrial Technology Systems Ltd's (ITS) Business Improvement Systems Project Manager, Colin Laws, who has passed his Association for Project Management APMP exam.
The knowledge-based benchmark qualification covers 37 areas within seven topics: Project Management in Context; Planning and Strategy; Executing the Strategy; Techniques; Business and Commercial; Organisation and Governance, and People and Professions. A thorough understanding and appreciation of these areas is considered fundamental to professional project management.
Colin took the three-hour written exam paper a week after attending the intensive five-day residential course in Peebles, and was elated to receive notification that he had passed. “The exam was draining, “he said, “so I was both relieved and delighted to hear I’d passed, especially given that the pass mark is so high.”
APMP is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification which demonstrates an individual’s understanding of how the elements of project management interact, and how projects fit into a strategic and commercial environment. All of ITS’ Project Managers are now APM qualified.
“The course content is about the diligence and governance of projects, making sure that projects proceed with the minimum of risk attached, as well as keeping control of costs and time,” Colin said.
“Studying for it has reinforced existing good practice and formalised what I was doing before. It was also helpful in suggesting alternative strategies for completing the planning stages in a project, so the qualification will be of benefit to both the company and our customers.”
The Association for Project Management is Europe’s largest independent body of its kind, with over 15,000 individual and 400 corporate members. It is the UK member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), and aims to develop and promote project management across all industry sectors.
