RiTA – ITS’ Utilities & Energy Monitoring Meter Maid Makes the List Parade

25th February 2008

RiTA, Industrial Technology System Ltd’s Utilities & Energy Monitoring System, has gained top level approval, passing Government-set energy efficiency criteria and qualifying the company for inclusion on the Energy Technology List.

ITS’ addition to the ETL means that customers who purchase RiTA may be eligible to claim an Enhanced Capital Allowance, a major feature of the Government’s commitment to tackling climate change by encouraging businesses to invest in energy-saving equipment.

Acceptance on the ETL indicates RiTA has been independently assessed against stringent energy efficiency standards. Companies that pay corporation tax or income tax who buy eligible product modules, qualify for 100% first-year ECA and gain up-front tax relief.  The ECA scheme has been jointly developed by the Inland Revenue and The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and is managed by the Carbon Trust.

ITS’ inclusion on the ETL is an indication of the high quality of RiTA.  It signifies to potential purchasers:

• RiTA meets the stringent energy efficiency criteria
• Companies buying RiTA may be able to claim 100% first-year capital allowance
• RiTA provides a potential cash-flow boost and shortened payback period
• RiTA represents energy-saving technology that reduces running costs.

The RiTA Utilities & Energy Monitoring System, is designed to automatically measure and record real-time utilities and energy usage including electricity, water, steam, air and gas.

The system enables users to access a range of real-time and historical data including Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Voltage (Phase to Phase, Phase to Neutral), Current per Phase, Frequency, Power Factor, Power (kW, kVA, kVar), Max Demand (Kw), Peak Demand (Kw) and Energy (kWh, kVar). With this data companies can gain an accurate understanding of their usage patterns.

The data can then be passed up to a site-based logging system and energy usage reports can be generated. Historical reporting and analysis techniques can then be used to identify and improve utilities and energy inefficiencies throughout the site. Further expansion to a SCADA or other Management Information System is also available.

A pilot system can be implemented in one area of your office or plant to prove that the system reliably records where the energy is being used. This will allow high usage areas to be targeted for improvement. RiTA can also be used to compare and challenge electricity supplier's billing figures to prevent overcharging, and will provide the first step towards an overall Energy Management and Reduction Policy.
